Design Challenge:
The Guildhall has been at the
heart of City governance since its construction in the mid fifteenth century.
Over time, and through various phases of building the complex has expanded and
evolved. It is currently occupied by the local authority, City of York Council,
but in 2013 the council will move from 16 separate offices across the City,
including the Guildhall into a new headquarters building. This new HQ has
secured the future of York's first railway station, a grade II* listed building,
through a sensitive conversion scheme requiring significant contemporary
additions to create the necessary accommodation.
The City is now keen to ensure
that the future of the complex is similarly secured. This is important, because
very soon a large part of the complex will no longer be in active use and the
significance of these heritage assets is such that identifying new uses is a
priority. The Council has committed to this competition process to explore the
future potential of the complex and is calling for fresh and innovative
thinking. The council appreciates that new ideas can very often highlight
previously unseen potential. Furthermore, the City of York Council is committed
to positive change and seeing the ideas which emerge taken forward to deliver a
new range of viable new uses for the complex.

New Campus of the Vietnamese-German University

Eligibility: The authorized representative as
well as all authors of design proposals must meet the eligibility criteria as
defined in the World Bank Guidelines and the Request for Expression of
Interest.
Site: The competition site is located
approximately 50 km northwest of Ho Chi Minh City in the new urban area of My
Phuoc in Thoi Hoa Commune, Ben Cat District in the northern part of Binh Duong
Province.
The area of the competition site measures
approx. 50.5 ha. It is bordered by Ring Road 4 to the north, existing
settlements to the south and southeast, the National Highway 13 (Binh Duong
Avenue) to the northeast and road D4 to the west. The new urban area of My
Phuoc is rapidly developing with industrial complexes and large residential
projects in the immediate surrounding of the site.
Selection process: The competition will be
conducted according to World Bank guidelines. The Client will short list
six general planners having submitted their expression of interest.
Those will be invited to submit a detailed
proposal in the second stage.

Design Challenge
The shortlisted consultants will be asked to
prepare an urban design proposal for the new VGU Campus, complemented by a
design proposal for selected buildings.
The campus will be built in two phases with
total area of approx. 327.288 sqm floor area providing capacity for 5.000
students in this first phase (up to 2017) with a construction scale of approx.
134.550 sqm.The envisioned phase 2 will be built for 12.000 students with a
construction scale of 192.738 sqm (up to 2020). It is asked for to design the
complete new campus VGU and its facilities with a Gross Floor Area of 327.288
sqm at this competition.

today announced the six design teams invited to submit proposals for the new
Cadogan Café , in the heart of fashionable Chelsea.

Design challenge:
PIDPR
(Public Interest Design Practices and Research) aims to expand the discipline
of architecture by challenging the traditional definition and boundaries of the
architectural profession, and by exploring alternative design practices.
Through the application of public interest design practice, collaboration with
local stakeholders and digital networking to engage a worldwide audience,
[gDx]³ proposes an alternative practice model to fully articulate public
interest design and research. [gDx]³, through the PIDPR Competition, is seeking
design projects that explore new and innovative ways of practicing architecture
to emp! ower and assist disadvantaged groups around the world.
Competition
goals:
(1)Challenge the
traditional definition of architecture,
(2)Explore ways in
which the boundaries of architecture profession can be expanded to have a
renewed sense of purpose in architecture, and to meet the demand of our future
generations of architects,
(3)Educate students
and others about how to expand the architectural profession and create new

research on values, benefits, theories, and principles of PIDPR, as well as
application of PIDPR in practice,
